Year 1/2 teacher, Tim Wright, explains the impact that real PE has made in his school
TEACHER CONFIDENCE AND EXPERTISE
All staff have commented that they now feel more confident in teaching PE and they have definitely grown in confidence compared to where they were before real PE was introduced. All staff have started using the assessment tools provided by real PE to assess and monitor the progress of their children.
PUPIL PROGRESS AND ENGAGEMENT
Teaching staff have commented on how all children are more engaged in PE lessons since introducing real PE. Children are able to challenge themselves because they understand where they are with their learning and they are able to progress or repeat a particular skill. Engagement has definitely increased and pupils are making good progress in all areas of PE. During meetings with Sports Captains, children have provided feedback on real PE lessons and they have commented on how much they like the structure of the lessons and how beneficial it is to see other children complete the skills they are working on.
WIDER IMPACT BEYOND PE LESSONS
The multi-ability cogs fit in really well with our school values and all classes have the multi-ability cog which they are currently working on displayed in their classroom. A full real PE display is also given prominence in both the infant hall and the junior hall. Staff have said that these multi-ability cogs are useful to refer to in a range of subjects, not just PE.
