What schools have to say about Collins Big Cat

“When we were looking for a new reading scheme to raise the profile of reading and improve standards for all abilities of readers, we investigated many different schemes and companies. We finally chose Collins Big Cat because it offered everything we needed and more! The quality and variety of books: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, picture books, books for reluctant readers, challenging reads for the more able, guided reading sets, e-learning books (to be used on the IWB) and phonics kits with all the resources, were second to none. The beautiful illustrations or stunning photos used in the books were attractive to everyone. The scheme also allows for older children with reading difficulties to have age-appropriate stories with simple writing so they are not feeling different from their peers.

There is a comprehensive Assessment Tool for all the teachers and detailed notes for teaching texts. Collin’s rep. Rachel, was very friendly and helpful and all deliveries arrived on time.

We are really looking forward to getting started with Big Cat in the new year and hopefully watch our reading get better and better!”

“As a school we needed a reading scheme but not just any scheme, something that would ignite and engage our readers – particularly our boys and reluctant readers. The children were involved in the set up of the books and created super entries for a Big Cat competition to go on display around the books and absolutely adore them. They love the variety of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and plays as well as variations of stories they already know. Children are very protective of them and are well looked after. Parents were also asked for their views and the feedback was overwhelming – not just because we finally had a reading scheme, but because we had the Big Cat reading scheme and their children were loving reading the books. The reading ethos within our school has changed since having the scheme and is now at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Children strive to read and enjoy more books and it has definitely had the impact we wanted.”

“When looking for a reading scheme for our brand new school, Collins Big Cat was a fantastic choice. The books are all bright and modern and there is plenty of variety to interest all the children. My class just can’t wait to change their reading books now! I was particularly pleased with how well the Big Cat Phonics Readers fitted in with the Letter and Sounds program, as it meant children were able to confidently engage with books even during their first term at school. Collins Big Cat also offers many other exciting resources and we are already looking at how the online assessment tool could be used as our school grows. Lynsey, our local consultant, has also been fantastic in supporting us to choose the right books for our school.”
